A Musical Revue Filmed through Google Meet

Pandemic Process

More pandemic production? YES!

To keep our actors looking forward during lockdown I decided to create a musical revue. We chose one musical number from each of the last ten decades and five famous comedy routines for the non-singers.

We rehearsed remotely. I choreographed remotely (an interesting process). All singers learned musical numbers remotely. Like our production of The Thin Man, I sent costumes and props to all cast members so parents, guardians, or siblings could take production stills of the actors in character. Our cast was all over the map; some were in the city, some were upstate, and some were in Connecticut. We even had one actor that was 3,000 miles away!

Then, one by one, we filmed all the live content remotely on Google Classroom.

The families were incredible, and the shots turned out beautifully.

After editing thousands of photos,

our professional film editor, Key Soto, put the whole thing together for an amazing result. It was just the carrot the actors and the parents needed to keep going through a most difficult time. The result was so beautiful and will remain a favorite project of mine forever.
